I had just finished engaging in a conversation with this woman and another of the men who works at the recycling depot.  She and I had questions about the new bin for recycling textiles.  Not sure what questions she had for this man, but what caught my eye was their posture, almost standing at attention.

We just had textile recycling come to the island, and I was thrilled to read about it a few weeks ago in the local newspaper.  Any textiles that are too stained or worn for thrift stores to use, shoes, belts, purses, can be bagged and put in the bins.   The man explained that they will be repurposed and used in insulation materials.  What a great idea!  It's a partnership between the local recycling depot and the Canadian Diabetes Association.  The Association gathered statistics - the average Canadian is responsible for 66 to 88 pounds of textile waste per year, with about 85% of that going into landfills.  "The modern scourge of 'fast fashion'...."  We often use old clothes, towels, socks etc. as rags, but now I have a good way to recycle them.

Extra:  Demonstrating the usefulness of duct tape.  We went to see a friend at the glass shop.  This large piece of glass had been broken, and duct tape had been placed strategically to prevent the breaks from spreading.  I liked the way the tape looked like a spider with far too many legs.  :)
