Hamble revisited

The Hamble River is a mecca for yachtsmen and anyone who just loves messing about in boats.
Although the two swans on the river today seemed more interested in whether I was going to offer them food rather than staying midstream.
Both village and river  which bear the name share picturesque qualities which many would call some of the best of Hampshire’s coastline.  The village itself has a quaint cobbled street leading down to the foreshore and it seems that every navigable part of the river is flanked with yachts, dinghies or powerboats.
Although the alternative claims to fame are that it played a part in preparations for the D-Day landings in France, and much more recently was the setting for a BBC Sunday night television series, Howards Way of the 1980s, which attempted to portray the life of a yachting and sailing community.
Today activity on the river is fairly quiet, although it is right on the doorstep of the magnificent sailing waters of the Solent.

The swans though seem far more interest in the prospects of food being thrown to them by visitors to the foreshore.
