King of the birds

Our second full day here in the Sounds. Was quite tempting to sit on the deck ALL DAY but instead we were up at 7am and out by 9am. We headed into Havelock and a walk along the estuary before having a coffee and muffin in the bakery. It was still pretty early in the day so we came back to the house, parked the car and headed off down the road. The road follows the Mahakipawa Estuary so we thought we might see some waders and other coastal birds. Alas we were slightly disappointed, especially in the kingfisher department!
We got back to the house after doing our 6km walk and sat lazing at the dining table, viewing our rubbish photos. This regal man came and parked himself in the tree, in full view of the window. I snaffled TeeJays 'big ass' lens and snook round the side of the house for a better view. COnfess am quite pleased with the results :-)
