The Bridge Of Sighs
A Neo-Gothic bridge, Grade 1 listed, built by Henry Hutchinson in 1871 and linking the original St John's college, Cambridge, on the right, to the newer building across the river Cam. Named the Bridge of Sighs when Queen Victoria said it reminded her of the Venice bridge as being enclosed but it's also said that pre-exam students would sigh as they crossed the bridge on their way to the tutor's office ! A glorious day with low winter sun.
