A bit weird blipping myself but I have a new app that I wanted to play with and I couldn't find another willing subject.

I drove the inland route to Kaikoura today. The effects of the earthquake are stunning. I think the thing that struck me deepest was the absolute randomness of the damage! The work that has been done to get that route open so quickly is a true testament to the attitude of kiwis who let nothing stop them and work incredibly hard for the benefit of all. Absolutely amazing and it makes me very proud to be a kiwi.

I took quite a few photos of the devastation and roadworks but didn't want to blip negatives so you get me instead (hmmm I understand that many would have preferred more interesting subject matter!)

I wouldn't usually have come to Kaikoura as I felt it would seem somewhat voyeuristic, but I'm a member of the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association and the committee asked the Kaikoura Mayor what our Association could do to help. He felt the greatest help we could be would be to come to town, spend some money and spread some cheer.

And I have to say, all the locals we've spoken to throughout the afternoon and evening have really appreciated exactly that. So I'm glad we've made the effort. And I may be forced to do some more shopping tomorrow just to spread a few more dollars around.
