bees christmas candy!

As the winter goes on the bees eat their honey and hopefull maintain their core temperature.  If their stores were not enough they might run out before the flowers start producing nectar.  They can't fly at these temperatures so they must have emergency supplies.  Bee candy is the answer so I have put a big slab of it on top of the hole in the cover board so if they get to the top of the hive - having eaten all the honey- there will be sugar for them.  They must not be given syrup as there is too much water in it and they can't fly to get rid of the excess.  Candy is concentrated with low water content - just the job.  When my kids were little they used to sneak into the hive and steal the bee candy!
