Diary of an Edinburgher

We like tree stumps

'Tis the season of danger - lots of discarded Christmas tree, which would make very good kindling. A couple of years ago I dragged home about half a dozen trees and chopped them up. I managed to resist last year, mainly because when all the pines dropped off it wasn't good kindling, really. I can easily resist this year, because it's impossible to drag a tree along while using a walking stick.

But the log stumps are a different thing - they're irresistible. And useful. This morning, while popping up for my routine blood test, I spotted a really nice one, and intended to pick it up on my way back, but someone had pinched it!. However, when we walked down our road today we found another one and JR took it back before we continued our walk. We need one to set up the bird table, which fell over a while ago. And they're good in the garden, and as a chopping block. Hope to find another one...

We've had such lovely weather for ages - apart from one windy day when the big wheel had to close. Today was another such day, so we decided to take a walk over the Meadows, with, perchance, a coffee (and cake) at the far end. Archie had great fun running between us or chasing sticks.

Our destination was the dog friendly 56North. But it was shut! We walked along a bit further and popped into a wee cafe with delicious Middle Eastern wraps. And they allowed Archie in! Good result, because the wraps were SO good, and SO massive that we've got enough for our tea.

I took the bus home, while JR and Archie walked back.

Now, to get my wee doo-dacky whizzing around on top of the fire, while I await the second half of my tasty lunch.

Scot Squad is back on TV. Funny!
