Dredging

The tide was out at Glasson Dock today and they were taking the opportunity to move some of the silt that builds up against the quay just outside the lock gates. Boats moor against this quay to be unloaded and they sit on the silt when the tide goes out. The crawler in use has extra wide tracks to reduce the ground pressure so that it can do this job.

The white spots beyond the tractor in my picture are swans that took the opportunity to feed as the silt was pushed into the flow of the river. At a rough count there were just over 100 swans in this group, I don't think I have ever seen so many.

I enjoyed reading through all your comments on my 365th blip on Wednesday 22nd, thank you, however imagine my surprise when I noticed that Ian Tomlinson - the subject of my blip had taken the time to register on blipfoto so that he could add his own very kind comment - Thanks Ian.
