Day 6: Sailor Katie

2years 303 days

Today is our friend Ben's 8th birthday. To celebrate, his parents hired us a 12man boat to take on the broads. What fun it was! We bought the children fishing lines (net for Katie), packed giant picnics and games and headed out for a day messing about on the river. The children had such a wonderful time. The parents had such a wonderful time. Katie took some getting used to wearing her lifejacket, but a change into a smaller one that fitted her better helped a lot!

She loved watching out the boat, waving at all the people and birds. The children ate vast quantities and took it in turns to steer the boat. Katie played happily with Amelie.

We moored up after lunch and the children did some fishing off the side of the boat (please note there is an adult beside and behind Katie and the boat is stationary!) The boys all caught a fish each, to their delight and our surprise. Kaite dropped her net in the river.

We turned back round and headed off in the other direction, finding some stunning scenery and houses as we travelled. Katie and I had a turn at the helm, which she absolutely loved before we returned the boat.

We went to a wonderful waterside family pub. It had four different play areas, a huge bouncy castle, go karts, big fields, and space beside the river for more fishing. The boys caught 40 more fish between them and Katie made lots of friends to play with. She ate a huge roast dinner, and fell asleep wrapped in the mei tai, as we wathced the sunset over the river. A really special day.
