Looking back or ahead
We walked to our local, the Crown and Sceptre, to enjoy their traditional firework display celebrating the transition into a New Year. It seemed quieter there until we went inside where it was hot, fuggy and crowded. Helena kindly got some drinks and we went back outside to wait in the peace night air overlooking the valley.
We were both feeling better at last and had spent a happy evening watching tv in front of a hot coal fire. Being ill over the holiday has rather disoriented me so I wasn't in search of loud events or lots of people, and this seemed perfect. The landlord soon came out leading his tribe and encouraged us to go behind the pub onto the little park right behind called Daisybank.
The show was suitably loud and explosive very much reflecting R., the landlord, who I think likes to set off a firework at any/every opportunity. It was very uplifting and short, but all around us and down the valleys we could see fireworks in all directions. We walked home by the allotments still spotting explosions in the distance at regular intervals and then bumped into out neighbour, who came in for a drink.
Happy New Year everyone. It seems important to say that.
