Some Ferns.....

...some lichen, and an occasional red berry in a very brown world.  This is what we encountered on our 6.5 mile woodlands hike today in Damascus Regional Park along the Lower Magruder Trail.   I carried along my 70-400 mm lens because I was sure I would see some wildlife, but we only saw a few Woodpeckers too far away to capture. I was thoroughly knocked out  a tad exhausted when we got home and took a long nap. My husband said he was going to go out for a run.... but he succumbed to a nap too, and the only running he did was in his dreams. 

It was a beautiful day to start the new year, with temperatures around 50 and lovely sunshine casting beautiful winter light on these ferns.
