Flower Friday: Done Too Soon
Today we attended a memorial service for a long time resident of High Prairie, Dona Taylor. She and her husband both grew up here and the High Prairie Community Center was filled to the brim with many locals and expats, such as my husband and myself, who have retired to this area.
While thinking about Dona's passing, I remembered Neil Diamond's 1970's song Done Too Soon.
The Chorus:
"And each one there
Has one thing shared:
They have sweated beneath the same sun,
Looked up in wonder at the same moon,
And wept when it was all done
For bein' done too soon."
Living in a community comprised mainly of retirees, one has a front row seat on mortality. So we were uplifted this evening with a visit by our friend, John, the PSU Economics Professor and his two sons. One son is in his first year at the University of British Columbia, and the younger son is in high school and considering a career in food science.
It was a delightful evening of good food, wine, personal tales and plans for the future. I made a pumpkin pie that was the highlight at dinner.
