and tied in a special way to denote his seniority in his family.  Spent the day on my feet again - first to a Khadi show sponsored by the government. Khadi means homespun and homewoven and was instigated by Mahatma Gandhi as a means of employment particularly country folk who didn't have enough farm work throughout the year see here for more details
There were stalls selling herbal tonics, lots of sweets and nibbles, chutneys and people kept on taking samples and giving them to me to try.  Beautiful woven cloth, scarves and blankets, handmade shoes and and.  It was good to see people appreciating everything.  Then off to the sari and vegetable markets where I bought a kilo of fresh peas for about 30p and have been nibbling them every since.  Wonderful veggies on sale but all seem to be cooked and killed by spices. There  was the most lovely lady, devoid of teeth and well into her 90's who sat beside her granddaughter and daughter selling vegetables.  Having asked if I could take her photo and shown it to her she collapsed into giggles and we had such fun as I tried to take more. She is here   And here is a link to my day's outing
