Gifts
Just some musings…
Whew —it’s over for another year. Thank goodness. Now I want to put all the Christmas stuff away. But not today (altho we did at least pack the christmas dishes away). Even though I pretty much avoid stores, the commercialism bothers me a lot —and too many presents under those trees. (It wasn't much different in my house when I was a kid, however..).
I believe it all started with those 3 wise men..and Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, I was reminded when looking at our wonderful but fragile Mexican creche (that my aunt and uncle brought from Mexico city in the middle of the night when I was 10… very exciting..) and wanting to put it away today. It’s one of those traditions that Tatum likes to get out and arrange, and does so well. This is the King on the horse with the gold… it fell off every time someone walked by (his hands aren't too steady either) but finally got reglued. the frankincense and myrrh are with the Kings on the camel and the elephant(my favorite)
This year we got the grandkids socks, a small starbucks card and a water buffalo (Heifer International) oh yes, and the Christmas Carol performance. They were great with it altho Oskar wondered where they’d put the water buffalo. It is fun to have a 6 year old (she did get a viking and a Rexie sweater) and there were some very thoughtful gifts from them. I hope they’ll learn to be generous with others less fortunate.. all I feel we can do is a small example here and there. It IS a time of giving…but it just seems to get too busy and too much all at once to be enjoyable. (I did have lots of cookies to give to people!) And time away from blip and other important things.
However, speaking of gifts !!!!! …after weeks (months?) of agonizing over what computer to buy and trying very hard to do with something less pricey, smaller, older or even non apple, I just now bit the bullet and ordered the new Macbook Pro. Last time I looked, the pick up was later in January. But now I can pick it up today! Wow. (I think it will be tomorrow)
