Slant of Light

Seasons Greetings Fellow Blippers!

It was a wild and blustery excursion on Knipe Scar ... a good soaking but so mild. I managed to avoid my neighbour that I can't stand's festive advances by saying I was on a silent retreat and headed for the hills. He and his wife were pissed and hurling abuse at eachother by the time I got back (...phew, lucky escape, I say). I was thinking as I was walking and battling the elements that it's hard to believe this time last year we managed to get mum into the car and to my sister's for lunch. There were Christmas carols on the radio and suddenly, from somewhere deep within the darkest recesses of mum, on some unintelligible bandwith, the words 'Ding, Dong, merrily on high ...' emerged from her lips. Hope she's doing ok now.

And a little bit of Emily for seasonal cheer ....

There's a certain Slant of Light - Emily Dickinson

There’s a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons –
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes –

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us –
We can find no scar,
But internal difference,
Where the Meanings, are –

None may teach it – Any –
‘Tis the Seal Despair –
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air –

When it comes, the Landscape listens –
Shadows – hold their breath –
When it goes, ‘tis like the Distance
On the look of Death –
