Argus Lofts, Brighton
The building, which dates back to the early 1900s, was home to the Argus newspaper until 1993. In 1999 it burned down. It was empty at the time of the fire, but work had just begun on a private development to convert the site into flats, underground parking and a wine bar. Gas cylinders exploded as flames leapt from the roof.
It has now been redeveloped as apartments and offices. There is no parking, and residents cannot apply for a permit under the terms of the occupancy in an attempt to cut down traffic in the town centre.
