The London way to pass away
The Victorian tradition of escorting the hearse in a glass, horse drawn carriage has remained in West London and in the East End to this day. Female Funeral Directors are a recent thing (I've only seen them in the last 10 years). To my mind this is a good thing as the women I have met at funerals seem to have more gravitas rather than the false demeanour of sorrow I see in their male colleagues.
Just my opinion however.
By complete coincidence I shot the hearse passing HJ Bent, one of the city's better known undertakers.
