Crooked
From Northampton drove northwards looking at various properties nearby and then moving up via Peterborough, Grantham, Mansfield, Nottingham, Sherwood Forest to Chesterfield where we saw this site.
Now the photos of this trip are generally very poor as they are still from a very old videotape with faded colours but the church spire is "crooked", it's not the video. Church of St. Mary and All Saints. The spire built around 1362 is thought to be crooked due to either a lack of good craftsmen (Black death) but more likely the lead on the roof heating up at different rates. I never knew about this spire, shame on me!
Then finally arrived at The Rutland Arms in Bakewell for the night. Not inspiring but I seem to remember a good evening meal in a wine bar.
Angie had been fascinated today by seemingly mile-long terraced houses in places like Mansfield. An important guest at my first wedding was the owner of Mansfield Brewery but we didn't stop for a pint.
