A gift and then some
Here is the story..
On Tuesday when I bowl with the ladies league, we were bowling a group of women who had some newer members that I did not know well. As we had all brought food to eat (and overeat) for our little holiday party, I had sampled everything. One of the ladies Maria, had made a cookie tray with several small bite size cookies, one of which was a really good sesame shortbread kind of cookie. So we talked cookies and as Maria is from New Jersey originally I asked if she had ever eaten or made pizzelles. "As a matter of fact" she said, "I am making some on Thursday". I proceeded to tell her how much I love them (especially the anise kind) and that my aunt that made them who lived in Pennsylvania had passed away the previous year so no one else made them in the family. So today I get a call from Maria to come to her house (which was not too far from where I live) to get a batch of pizzelles. I was shocked and elated at the same time by her wonderful gesture. So of course, I went. Thanking her profusely and offering to pay for the dozen that she gave me, she said in that Jersey accent "doncha werry about it".
This is not the end of the story..
As I was walking out the hallway to the front door I spotted some photographs on the wall. "Maria, did you take these photos?" "Oh, yes, I love to take photos!" Well, I just smiled even bigger and told her I was a photographer too. She said she has no one that will go on photo walks with her except her hubby (and I think he is like mine, just patiently waits while we do our thing!) So now, we plan to do a photo walk after the holidays. As she does not know the area really well at all, I can take her to some of my favorite places.
It really pays to bowl on Tuesday morning and talk to the people about other things than how bad we are bowling!
And the pizzelles are heavenly. I think I will have to hide them so that I don't eat them all by tomorrow. I might share with Jerry and I might not.
