Trip to England

Angie & I set off at 7:00 am for the 900+km drive from Eichenau near Munich to Calais via Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and stopping for a while at a company in Illingen-Uchtelfangen ( a place in the middle of nowhere on the French border but a tongue teaser for Nigel). Then on through Luxembourg to Calais and as always a P&O ferry to Dover - The Pride of Calais. Ever since the 80's I have nearly always used P&O ferries and even when the Eurotunnel was opened in 1994, I stuck with them. I simply enjoy stretching the legs and having a proper cup of tea in a decent stainless steel pot and none of that SNCF chicory coffee or Sealink paper mugs.

Of course, the visit to the Duty-Free is obligatory even if everything costs more than on mainland Europe, tax paid. As I am posting this in 2016 after Toblerone did the dirty trick of making more valleys than peaks in its triangular bars, thought this still from the video of the trip was appropriate. I suspect people of my age 60+ voted for Brexit so that they could get back Duty-Free shops - they were the highlight of any travel in the good old days when we had control and the UK on the verge of collapse, devaluation, World Bank help .........

As always stirring stuff to see the White Cliffs in the late evening around 20:00. Then a dash to Nigel's place near Maidstone for the night. I seem to remember a pub and little else.
