Resurrection
"Component" is one of Auckland's top street artists. Just ten days ago I posted a photo of one of his murals which is in the foyer of a new building, the offices above the foyer being occupied by a media company. I speculated that the mural may have been rescued from the fence surrounding the building site.
Now, I suspect it is more likely that he did this for the new building. Either as a copy/rerun of an earlier work, or de novo. This photo tonight may explain why I have the belief.
On 05 April 2012 I first posted a photo of a mural I had seen without seeing for some time before taking the photo. I had assumed until looking more closely that the photo was of two boys fishing. I was impressed with the powerful message made simply. Not many less than a million blips later (only a small number by me!) I posted another view as I bemoaned the coming disappearance of the mural due to development. It was just over another 2 million blips later that I showed what I believed was the demise of the mural.
After she saw my blip ten days ago, S told me that she had seen that the boy fishing was on the wall in the entry foyer of the new apartment building. For various reasons, I am confident that Component has redone this anew for the building. Consequently, I believe that the one in Williamson Avenue is likely also to be a specific commissioned work.
As a minor point of interest (for me at least) the woman on the scooter reflected in the glass doors as she went past behind me on her way home, is a colleague.
