Good, bad and comical
A day of random contrasts. The type of day that Cambodia does very well and more often than any other sort of day.
Good things:
- news from home that the flat I reserved in April has finally completed and I can move in on my return. Overjoyed.
- positive meetings about new projects and funding for the Cambodia programme, which bodes well for the next few years. Exciting.
Bad things:
- having such mouth pain I got an emergency dental appointment as I was worried I had an abscess. Confirmed there is no hideous hidden decay so cause of pain not entirely known. Baffling.
- being petrified for the 3-hour drive to Kampong Thom because of kamikaze driving. Although being less bone rattled than previous journeys along this route as they've finally finished the road after several years of development aid money being 'siphoned' off. Surprised.
Comical things:
- kamikaze driver did occasionally chortle and comment at road hazards that he'd swerved around i.e. braking late for some cows trotting into the road and then pointing out 'cow'. Yes, I had been aware.
- staying in an out of place and ostentatious hotel in Kampong Thom with an invasion of jumping cockroaches. Incongruous.
