Gait Barrows Xmas Bash the last?

I don't know what has happened to my days, usually so tranquil and full of pottering about?
This morning the Aga engineer was meant to arrive between 8-10 for an emergency pre Xmas repair. Needless to say he was called to an 'emergency' and I had to go out to the Gait Barrows volunteer Christmas party with the essential ingredients, cake and mulled wine.
Leaving my cold and lifeless Aga I set off, fortunately cheese straws and cake prepared yesterday.
The sun came out from behind the clouds and shine down on us, as the gas burner arrived in the nick of time and the trestle table were spread with all sorts of goodies.
The bonfire was smoking away in the distance, the jacket potatoes were done to a turn. Several dogs were playing around our feet with special Christmas exemption.
Mike gave a few words of thanks to Rob, who graciously replied - his last party as their leader as his retirement comes ever closer.
After a stroll I set off for home, hoping for some message of hope re: Aga. Even as I walked in the phone rang and our friendly engineer wanted to know if he could come right away! After a probe about he decided that the burner needed replacing and this would be Thursday. Getting a bit close to the big day for comfort? Dozens of mince pies to bake?
Anyway we went to collect our very large turkey in spite of this minor technical hitch, all will be well.
I mad Mary Berry Tunis Cake for the party, decorated with marzipan shapes, quite pleased with it!
