In passing

I was passing the old Glasgow High School in Elmbank St today on my way to a meeting about a care home in my constituency which is threatened with closure.

Looking up I saw these four statues and wondered who they were.

The answer, I discovered later, is Homer, Galileo, James Watt & Cicero - figures expected to inspire learning in the various types of subject offered by the school in the 19th century.

I wonder who we might choose today.
