Saint Andrews
First, I posted this in other social media but I am also pasting it here:
On a long car journey I was listening to Radio Scotland this morning. The program was focussed on the plight of the homeless, those sleeping rough night after night and the perceptions of the passing public to the poor souls, through whatever circumstances, who have landed in this position.
There were several callers to the studio who made valid comments and observations.
However a lady, called Margaret I think, phoned in relating her account of talking with a young man sleeping rough. He was not looking for anything but she engaged him in conversation and quickly gained an insight of a quite honest and noble young man who was victim to circumstances.
She continued to give her account and, unwittingly I think, conveyed her sense of kindness, love and compassion possibly seeing this young man as a son or grandchild. She parted company giving a cuddle and taking some comfort that there was still a sparkle of hope in his eye. She admitted she could not sustain such optimimism in the same situation.
Her short story was incredibly moving and more powerful than any speech that could be delivered by a politician.
If you get a chance please try and listen to her account. It deserves a wider audience. BBC Radio Scotland about 10.30 am, Friday 16 December.
The call is about an hour and 40 minutes in to the program:

I was down at Saint Andrews to collect L, his first term now complete. Thankfully I removed the dog cage before leaving as the entire boot space seemed to be consumed with bags of washing.
On arrival home and having had very little exercise there was just enough day light left to take these guys for a walk at Achaderry.
