Powlett Lake.
Late afternoon. I decided to head down to the Powlett River Estuary for a nice walk down to the beach and back. Of course it started raining as I was driving there. It didn't last long, thank heavens, as the cloud cover was moving away and breaking up.
Just between the Rail Trail and the dunes is a massive lake that doesn't normally exist; that formed, probably over a year ago, as a result of the huge amount of rain we have been experiencing. I normally drive past it and head down further to the coast and the start of the estuary proper. Today I decided to hop a few fences and get down there for a closer look. There was a myriad of birds on this lake - ducks and Black Swans - that hastily headed over to the far side. I must have also spooked a mob of Kangaroos that started hopping madly along the far shore, making a big splash with each leap. Quite the sight. I arrived there about 90 minutes before sunset and being so impressed with the location I decided to hang about and see how the light shaped up as the sun fell lower in the sky. So I started snapping away enjoying the lovely location. There was a movement in the water about a couple of meter's out in the lake and there was this frog. He (?) just floated there supposedly looking me over. Then after a while moved closer. Stopped and stared at me again. And this was repeated until he was alongside my left foot. It was really weird. Then he just hopped away to the left and kept me company for the remainder of my time there. As the sun dropped lower the frog chorus started up. The surf was cracking and thundering over on the beach. Swallows were skimming the lakes surface. Something made me turn around and there was another bloomin' mob of Kangaroos behind me. I was obviously in their spot as there was plenty of scat around where I was standing, and many of the grass tussocks were flattened. They were starting to freak me out, after the frog episode, just standing there staring. I had got my shot anyway so decided to carefully make my way around them and head back to the car. It was a really magical time.
I had lots of exposures to play with. I processed a number upon arriving home and called in my much better half to help me select my blip. Kaye made the point that I haven't really done any sunset blips and perhaps this might be a good time to put one up.
This one above is not really sunset but its close, and for want of a better name...
