Purple Reign

This year, the Devil's-bit scabious is really beginning to take a hold in the main meadow. This shot shows it and Field scabious in a 'bed' bordering the path down to the meadow; I like to think of it as a nursery area. I'll collect the seed later in the year and scatter it over the meadow, puddling it into the earth ensuring good seed/soil contact. These two species are a super late source of nectar for flying things and are amongst my favourite wild flowers.
