Berry Season
Blackberries, that scourge upon the land in times other than harvest, now dot the landscape in purple sweetness. The best ones, sweet and fat, seem to hang just beyond reach, where we risk scratched calves, thighs, and forearms to pluck the sweet late summer treasures. River banks seem to hold the best, growing in the moist sandy loam to brambly goodness. Where's the pie?
