ABIDING BY THE FIVE SECOND RULE
So, I'm watching the triplets,
As they make brief flights from the nest.
One circles above and around me.
Leaving my sight for less than two minutes.
Returning. He lands in a nearby tree with a fish.
Yes, a fish.
Headless, even.
Only a Super Osprey could snag,
Plus behead.
A slippery meal in that amount of time.
Or a Sneaky Osprey could steal a meal
Or a Stinky Osprey could grab a rotting leftover.
Unfortunately, snack time was cut short.
The talons didn't quite want to hold on to the fish,
Plus, the tree limbs at the same time.
With a muffled smack.
Gills and tail hit the grass.
Ohhhhhhhh.
I expected Super Osprey to dive-down and retrieve it.
Then I realized. Five seconds had ticked by.
We all know food that hits the ground,
Can only be eaten,
If picked up within five seconds.
