This year's must have
One of the big things this year for Christmas are literary spoofs of much loved juvenilia, such as Five Go On A Strategy Awayday and this little gem, the Ladybird Book of The Meeting. All the best jokes are of course serious, and I for one have sat in more than one meeting of middle class white males discussing equality and diversity. Its no joke, just true.
My day was a slightly frustrating one of shifting deadlines and imperatives, but also plenty of good humour and Christmas cheer (including our team Secret Santa where I was given a battery operated self stirring mug). My biggest achievement of the day was to get a box of Christmas goodies off to The Girl Race in Canada via the courier firm DHL and a very helpful young man with a beard and a gentle voice; he was like Whispering Bob Harris reincarnated (except Whispering Bob is still alive despite prostate cancer and has eight children and a twice weekly slot on Radio 2; never say my blog is lacking in educational content).
After work a few of us met up in the local pub with an ex colleague for drinks and nostalgia for the days when the NHS was more of a going concern; afterwards TSM and I nipped next door for a curry at the place I went to the previous evening. Yes it was that good; not so indulgent this time in terms of quantity but very good.
Poor old Dizzle had a shitty day (literally) so when we got home we freshened up his room and his bed linen. Finger crossed he will get better after he shakes off the bug. Top Gun stepped up with some housework and a trip to the chemist for essential medicines.
Diarrhoea and vomiting bugs are also a seasonal inevitability and some people seek them out as weight loss solutions; rather drastic in my view but there you go ...
