Pirate of the Skies

This afternoon I was watching a bald eagle as it was sitting quietly in a pine tree along the edge of the salt marsh.
Suddenly the eagle became very alert and took flight toward the reeds. I heard some squawking and immediately knew what was going on, a blue heron caught a fish, the eagle saw that and wanted to steal the prize.
The eagle did two circles over the heron before gliding down and snatching the fish that the hapless heron had wisely abandoned in the mud of low tide.
In this photo the eagle is flying back to his tree to consume his ill gotten treasure which was firmly grasped in his big eagle yap.
