after the flood

I had a nice day in Carlisle today. I renewed my membership of Tullie House Museum and visited an exhibition about Carlisle and The Great War.

In the museum foyer I saw this wall hanging made by visual artist Rosie Galloway-Smith to remember the terrible floods last December. People are invited to write their memories or messages of support on  labels, which are then pinned onto the work, which represents the town and the River Caldew.

I did a little Christmas shopping and visited my favourite Carlisle cafe called Lost on a Mountain. The young man behind the counter remembered me and that I worked in The Usual Place, even though I have only met him once before (several months ago when I took his photo for my "Humans of Dumfries and Galloway" Facebook page - you can see it here).

I then went to the station to meet Sarah on her way home from London for the holidays! She in turn had met some old friends and we all sat together on the train back to Dumfries.
