Saved from the fire

This very dozy toad had a narrow escape today. I had a work party at the nature reserve and it was was found buried under vegetation that had been piled on the bonfire site - luckily before starting a new fire. It was a good record as we don't often see toads at the reserve, being high up in the chalk hills with very few ponds nearby.
