To Hull and Back...

The title a nod to Mick Ronson, I listened to this album as we headed to Hull this morning.  Away just after five everyone was soon back to sleep and as I drove I thought of the task ahead of Mimi.

As I drove east through the Eden Valley the sun was rising and I was in awe of the beauty of the morning, purples, pinks, oranges just beautiful.

When we arrived at the rink we chatted with some of the staff and received a very genuine and very warm welcome, hockey fans really are a very large extended family with very few exceptions.

Kitted and ready Mimi was very nervous which is not like her but as we chatted quietly before she went on she settled but during the warm up she missed a lot of easy pucks but then game face appeared and off we went.

She was peppered with few early shots and dealt with them brilliantly then with 9 minutes gone and Scotland on the penalty kill there were two unmarked forwards leaving Mimi with no chance and the puck was slammed home from close in.  She got right back at it and continued with a series of great saves.

Again on the penalty kill a second goal was slotted in at the back post again after the extra skater was left all alone and a third followed again but one of her own players got her stick inside Mimi's pads and was actually pulling her the wrong way so again no change for a save.

Mimi finished with 33 saves from 36 earning her praise from both sets of fans, both sets of players and bot sets of coaches. Her reward was man of the match, in addition the girls also pick a players player of the game and Mimi scooped this too. She was very disappointed at the loss but realizes now how well she played
