Black Fungi

Took a break this morning for a bike ride. Started in the mist as can be seen in the extra. However it began to clear as I cycled to Hutton le Hole.

Just as I was beginning to think I would struggle to find a photo opportunity a Squirrel caught my eye and then promptly disappeared. As I turned back towards the bike this mossy log caught my eye. I have never seen this variety of fungus before. Not a clue as to what it might be....any suggestions gratefully received.
