2016 Wednesday -- The End is Near
This is the season of saying goodbye to all my fall semester students.
Many of them have worked very hard. Putting the comments on their last essays is enjoyable. Some students, though, have not given their attention to what was necessary. The grades on those papers are difficult to pen.
One male student, who is failing the class, spent moments with me after class today expressing great regret. I had allowed him to rewrite the next to last project; it was worse than what he first submitted. He's a student with potential, but no produce. I tried to express that to him in an encouraging way, not easy to do. Before he left, he stepped toward me and shook my hand; I sensed he wanted to hug me. I think we both would have cried if he had. He's learned the hard way that college is not high school.
The photo is one of the rooms where I teach each week. Students turn the screens sideways so they can see the whiteboard at the front of the room.
