A quote from Hilary Mantell spotted on a deck-chair at the Book Festival today; what a pile of precious nonsense. Perhaps it is a quote from some character in the book whose purpose is to draw out the pseudo-intellectual drones so that they may be sent to the guillotine. I will never know.

I read Wolf Hall; a triumph of research and style over any bloody point whatsoever. Exasperating. Wordy.

I don't imagine I'll be reading her latest. If you wish for a more accurate aphorism than the one on the deckchair; Life is too short ever to read more than one Hilary Mantel book.
