Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it
...let's do it, let's fall in love.
I couldn't have been happier today to have blazing sunshine coinciding with my lunch break. A brief spin around our business park's wee loch with my phone camera afforded me lots of photo ops of insects on the surrounding vegetation. And lots of them were mating. Ahem... This is a pair of Tiger hoverflies also known as Sun flies (Helophilus pendulus) caught inflagrante delicto. If this is a species of hoverfly with an aquatic larval phase, then it would make sense to be mating next to a loch! I hope my looming camera didn't ruin their brief moment of insectile passionate congress.
