St Nicholas Day

Dear Diary,

Yesterday was a perfect snow fall.  The flakes were like angel feathers, light and fluffy.  There was no wind or ice and the snow gently fell all day.  It was easy shoveling.  Chris, my snowplow guy, did his first plow.  He has been plowing my driveway for 21 years.  This morning I will go out and finish up the shoveling.

I thought I would have a bit of digital fun with my photograph this morning of the tiny fairy door on the tree in my front yard.  I made a wee wreath for it and "shoveled" a path to the door.  Then the fairies got busy building a snowman in honor of St Nicholas Day.

I always told my students that imagination was more important than knowledge.  The Einstein quote to that effect always hung in my classroom.  With a well developed imagination you are never alone, you are never at a loss, and you are never, ever bored.

I know that some parents today don't let their children have the Santa story in their lives; I think that is a big mistake.  Childhood is the time when children should have a strong imaginary world.  They will grow up soon enough, let them live in their fantasies for as long as they can.  It will make them happier people in the end.

Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. Albert Einstein
