Andrew Bell

I was drawn to this statue of Andrew Bell in Leith today.  He established a school here in 1839, long before the 1870 Education Act and that of 1880, which made schooling compulsory for those aged 5-10.

Our main achievement today was to complete our Christmas newsletter, the theme of which is yet to be guessed. We also called in on Jack to present him with a birthday card and share a slice of chocolate cake, albeit slightly early - his birthday is on Friday.

Exercise today: walking (8,647 steps).
