Ysgol Trefriw

We took the scenic route back home after packing our tent down in the pouring rain! Lots of wiggly roads and stunning views of Snowdonia including Snowdon covered in clouds.

We stopped in Trefriw as its where my great grandfather Owen Evan Jones was born in 1875. This current school building replaced the one he was educated at in the 1880s and from where he went on to become a school teacher and eventually headmaster in Ormskirk, Lancashire. The first generation of his family to be able to speak English and this caused a rift with his father who didn't want his son to teach English to other Welsh speaking children. Hopefully I can see the original school records one day if I can get back to Llandudno.

Onwards through the walls of Conwy and past the castle before crossing the Telford Bridge. No time to stop this time but looks a great place to visit sometime. All in all a fabulous week in north Wales and a place I will return to again.
