Rugby and more rugby
The school was very proud to have their first XV make the finals of the Natwest Champions Trophy which took place yesterday afternoon at Allianz Park, the home of Saracens Rugby Club. This is an annual competition for school boy rugby to determine the strongest rugby team. They rearranged lessons so that all of the top three years at school (years, 11, 12 and 13) could go to Allianz to support their first team. It was televised on the England Rugby Channel and despite playing against the reigning champions, they won 17-10. A wonderful victory for the school! Thomas took his trumpet and played the fanfare to lead the cheering - even the TV commentator mentioned the sound of the trumpet!
Today was Thomas' final rugby match of the season. Except it nearly wasn't - the opponents (Eton College) contacted our school to say they could not field a strong B team and so could their B team rather play our C team? So the match for the B team was cancelled. However later in the week a few B team players, including Thomas , were asked to play for the C team to bolster their strength. As it turned out there was nothing wrong with their B team, they were very strong and they completely annihilated our C team. A sneaky way to ensure victory? Perhaps. Out team only scored one try (by Thomas) and it was a very frustrating outcome for our team. Here Thomas is playing 8th man at the back of the pack.
I finished wrapping Christmas presents today, and am getting organised for next week when we are away. Tomorrow....my favourite event of the year...the school carol service.
