Mark Rolle architecture

This is called Pound House, part of Dotton farm built in 1871. It was designed by a young man called Mark Rolle who as Mark Trefusis inherited the vast Rolle Estates in North and South Devon at the tender age of six. He became one of the foremost benefactors in the country. He built several farms and numerous cottages for farm workers. All his buildings have the distinctive letters MR showing his part as the architect and many of the cottages and farms can be seen dotted around the county. I was on an organised walk with my walking group this morning. We climbed hills and walked down country lanes and up onto the commons. It has become decidedly windier this afternoon.
