Changing Conditions

I was driving up the Bernina Pass this morning to go for a short ski tour. The weather was beautiful and sunny with little wind and I was anticipating a glorious, short excursion. Thus it came as a bit of a shock when at the summit of the Pass I was exposed to ferocious winds. I did set off but what had been deep powder last Sunday was now hard, icy crust. As I was on my own, discretion soon took the greater part of valour and I returned. It was still good to be out in such magnificent surroundings.
