The Liverpool Philharmonic

A concert on a Friday afternoon. Pure indulgence. And the audience didn't seem any older than usual.

We are so lucky to have a world class orchestra, with a truly international cast of stars. Our brilliant conductor, Vasily Petrenko from Russia, came 10 years ago, when he was just short of 30 and has created an amazing sound. Today's soloist for Chopin's Piano Concerto No 1 was the South Korean Seong-Jin Cho. 20 years old and last year's winner of the International Chopin competition in Warsaw. A truly breathtaking performance from hands that conjured such a range of emotions and tones from the piano. He didn't hang around for a photo by his new admirer, but ran across the road and into his hotel with a fan in hot pursuit.
