Chick

Just one chick from 6 eggs, the other chick died soon after emerging not sure why. The mother hen feeds it tiny bits of food, and it can run pretty fast. 
I was told that getting eggs when there is a big thunderstorm can somehow kill off the chick or probably the embryo in the egg.
Two people told me and said it was well know.
Anyone know why?
