Queen Mary's Bathhouse
When Mary Queen of Scots returned to Scotland after her husband the King of France died, she lived at the Palace of Holyrood which is the present Queen’s official residence in Scotland. On the edge of the palace grounds stands this very strangely shaped building.
A plaque states
This little two storeyed building is traditionally associated with Mary Queen of Scots (1542-1567).* It was once attached to a boundary wall enclosing the King’s Privy Garden and served as a pavilion or summer house where the Royal family might relax while strolling in the garden. Whether it ever contained a bath is unknown.
*(Although she lived until 1587 she was forced to give up her throne in 1567)
This is part of my occasional series on places connected with the famous, but tragic, Mary Queen of Scots (see the tags)
