Father Christmas

Tonight was the Christmas Lights switch on in Goodwick. Tomorrow night is the switch on in Fishguard and its the much larger event. Tonight was the simpler event with the local school children singing carols before the lights were switched on. This year a completely new set of lights added to the interest and they were well received. Immediately after the switch on Father Christmas appeared in his sleigh and the children excitedly  queued up to receive their packet of sweets. One of the previous Mayors insisted on providing the children with a healthy bag of fresh fruit, that idea did not survive some critical comment from our young customers.
Another of our Mayors, a few years ago, was towing the sleigh and instead of stopping on the Square he drove off down Main Street with a police car in hot pursuit. Needless to say the kids were horrified as Santa was in the sleigh with their bags of sweets. A few minutes later the sleigh  returned and parked in its prearranged slot but our Mayor was taken away in handcuffs much to the pleasure of the kids. Although we all had a great laugh at his stunt ,next year we went back to a simple boring switch on.
Tomorrow night should see a large crowd in Fishguard and I am so pleased the weather forecast is good.
