Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

"I've Been There!"

We were watching the television news & sports this evening when a quick shot of Pittsburgh came onto the screen. Mr. Fun blurted out, "I've been there!" I grabbed the camera and took a couple quick shots.

Twelve years ago we vacationed on the American Queen Paddlewheel Steamboat. We had begun the journey in St. Louis and ended our trip in Pittsburgh. It was 8 days and 1200 miles of river wonder on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. We enjoyed the trip immensely, and the added pleasure was having the companionship of Scott & Peg Smith along with us, caused this to be a favorite trip and special memory.

When we disembarked the boat in Pittsburgh, the two of us stayed there for three extra days to explore and discover that city, a place we had never been to before and weren't sure if or when we'd get there again. We were both fascinated by the combining of two rivers, by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, which form the Ohio River. Here in southern California, there is basically no rivers that flow with any sizable amount of water.

This television image my camera captured is not very good, but the landmark is meaningful to us, and yes, I had not managed to capture much else with my camera today. Honestly, it was just too hot to be outside. It's now 10:00 p.m. and we've got the entire house opened to get some cooler air in here. I'm tried of living in air-conditioning, and we are ready for this two-week old heat wave to subside.

Good night from Southern California.
