Paterson
A very pleasant treat day for the recent Birthday Boy – Beck and I did a bit of Christmas shopping and ate lunch at Broadway, then went to showing of Jim Jarmusch’s wonderful new film ‘Paterson’ before meeting up with the kids for a pretty ample Sloppy Joe at Annie’s Burger Shack. And when we got home we partook of our separate researchs - I checking out William Carlos Williams ‘Selected Poems’ whilst Beck perused some old shipping manifolds. Apparently Paterson was the final destination for some of her Great-Somethings when they tried their luck abroad at the turn of the century, swapping one smoky mill town in Lancashire for another several thousand miles away in New Jersey. They only lasted nine months or so though – family history has it that the summer months in Jersey were too hot and bug-ridden for Oldhamites…
